“I Made a Mistake Supporting Jonathan Bii in 2022,” Uasin Gishu KUPPET Official

Sosthene Belat apologizes to residents over his 2022 political choice, vows to intensify efforts to push for accountability and leadership change in Uasin Gishu County.

Uasin Gishu KUPPET Chairman Sosthene Belat has publicly apologized to residents for supporting Governor Jonathan Bii during the 2022 General Election, describing the decision as a political mistake he is determined to help reverse.

In a strongly worded statement, Bellant expressed regret over his previous political position, asking residents to forgive him while pledging to triple his efforts to challenge what he considers unsatisfactory leadership in the county.

“Good people, I owe you all profuse apologies for misleading you in 2022 to choosing Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii. It's a political mistake that shouldn't EVER happen,” Bellant said.

The outspoken teachers' union official declared that his renewed political commitment would focus on restoring accountability, integrity and development, arguing that residents deserve leadership that responds to their needs and delivers tangible results.

Belat's remarks signal a shift in his political position towards Governor Bii, whose election he previously supported, and could inject fresh debate into the county's evolving political landscape.

“As a matter of personal commitment, I will use triple the energy to undo the unfortunate circumstances that I placed you in. Beat me thin, good people,” he stated.

Belat Takes Aim at County Leadership

The KUPPET chairman argued that the push for political change should go beyond personalities and electoral competition, insisting that the central issue should be the quality of leadership and the delivery of public services.

He raised concerns about what he described as ineffective leadership, unfulfilled promises, mismanagement of public funds and stagnant development, calling on residents to demand greater accountability from their elected leaders.

Belat also cited infrastructure and public services as issues residents should consider when evaluating the county government's performance.

However, his statement did not provide specific evidence to substantiate the allegations concerning public fund management and service delivery.

The remarks nevertheless place governance and accountability at the centre of his emerging political message, as he seeks to mobilise residents around the need for a different approach to county leadership.

Calls on Residents to Join the Movement

Belat thanked those who had already joined his movement, acknowledging their trust and encouraging them to remain committed to the push for change.

He also appealed to undecided residents to examine the challenges facing their communities and participate in efforts aimed at improving governance.

The KUPPET chairman pledged to dedicate his time and resources to the campaign, promising to engage residents through public forums and other grassroots mobilisation activities.

“I am all in. I will exhaust every resource, speak at every forum, and work around the clock to ensure we bring real leadership back to our county,” he declared.

His message seeks to position the campaign as a collective effort rather than an individual political undertaking, with residents expected to play a central role in determining the county's future leadership.

A New Political Chapter for Uasin Gishu?

Belat's public admission of regret over his 2022 political choice could become a talking point in Uasin Gishu's political circles, particularly as leaders and residents assess the performance of the current county administration.

By acknowledging his previous support for Governor Bii, Belat has placed his own political judgment under scrutiny while seeking to demonstrate that leaders and political actors should be willing to take responsibility for their decisions.

His position also raises questions about the political alliances that could emerge as the country moves towards the next General Election in 2027.

For Belat, the immediate task appears to be building support for a campaign centred on accountability, improved service delivery and renewed development efforts.

Whether the initiative gains wider political traction will depend on its ability to attract support across the county and present credible proposals for addressing residents' concerns.

“Let's Finish the Job”

In his closing remarks, Belat insisted that he was prepared to commit himself fully to the effort, urging supporters and undecided residents to unite behind the push for change.

His apology marks a public departure from his previous support for Bii and presents an opportunity for him to redefine his political position ahead of the next electoral contest.

As the debate over Uasin Gishu's leadership continues, Belat's challenge to the county's political establishment is likely to focus attention on accountability, development priorities and the expectations of residents.

“Let's finish the job,” Belat declared, signalling his determination to intensify the campaign for what he describes as better leadership in Uasin Gishu County.
