HON. ABDI ALI ABDI, MP IJARA: LET US RENEW OUR COMMITMENT TO PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
As Kenya marks Mazingira Day 2026, the Member of Parliament for Ijara Constituency, Hon. Abdi Ali Abdi, has called on Kenyans to renew their collective commitment to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
In his Mazingira Day message, Hon. Abdi said the day is a powerful reminder that the environment is the foundation of life, livelihoods and national prosperity.
"On this Mazingira Day, Let us renew our Commitment to protect and preserve our environment for future generations," the MP said.
Hon. Abdi Ali Abdi, who has been at the forefront of development and climate resilience in the arid and semi-arid region of Garissa County, noted that the people of Ijara understand better than most the critical importance of environmental conservation.
For a constituency that has faced the harsh realities of prolonged droughts, floods, and climate change, his message resonates deeply. Trees are not just beauty — they are survival. They bring rain, hold the soil, feed livestock and secure the future of pastoralist communities.
The MP said Mazingira Day should not be treated as just another public holiday, but as a national call to action.
"This is our home. We have nowhere else to go. If we destroy our forests, if we pollute our rivers, if we neglect our land, we are destroying our own future. But if we plant a tree today, we are planting hope for our children," Hon. Abdi stated.
Since his election, Hon. Abdi Ali Abdi has been championing a development agenda that balances human needs with environmental sustainability, including advocacy for water pans, climate-smart agriculture, and tree-growing initiatives in schools and public institutions across Ijara.
He urged residents of Ijara to use the day to plant trees in their homes, schools, mosques and market centres, and to nurture them beyond the day.
"I call upon the youth, women, elders and our students in Ijara to take the lead. Let every household in Ijara plant at least one tree today. Let us green our constituency, let us green our county, let us green our nation," he said.
Hon. Abdi also linked his message to President William Ruto’s ambitious 15-billion tree growing campaign, saying Ijara Constituency will play its full role in achieving the national target and in building Kenya's climate resilience.
He concluded by wishing all Kenyans and the people of Ijara a Happy and Blessed Mazingira Day 2026.
