‘No Bad Blood’: Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Grace Cheserek Opens Up on Relationship With Governor Rotich

Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek has moved to ease speculation over her relationship with Governor Wisley Rotich, saying there is no bad blood between the two leaders.

Cheserek said her focus is not on political differences but on ensuring that the administration delivers on the promises it made to the people of Elgeyo Marakwet.

Speaking on her working relationship with the governor, the Deputy Governor said she wants enough room to push members of the county executive to perform and remain accountable to residents.

She has particularly asked Governor Rotich to allow her to keep County Executive Committee Members (CECs) and Chief Officers (COs) on their toes, ensuring that government programmes translate into tangible services for residents.

Cheserek said her intention is to work within the administration and help ensure that departments deliver on their mandates.

For her, holding county officials accountable is not about creating divisions within the county leadership, but about making sure residents get value from the government they elected.

She emphasized that the leadership should remain focused on the commitments made to the people during the election period, saying residents expect results rather than political wrangles.

Her remarks come amid public interest in the working relationship between the Governor and his deputy, with Cheserek now making it clear that her priority is strengthening service delivery.

The Deputy Governor's call for greater accountability places renewed attention on the performance of county departments and the need for senior officials to work together in delivering development projects and essential services.

Cheserek maintained that she has no personal differences with Governor Rotich, stressing that her push for greater accountability is driven by her responsibility to the people of Elgeyo Marakwet.
