Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has revealed details of what he described as his last conversation with President William Ruto, saying their relationship became strained after he declined to participate in the impeachment of then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during the JKL show on Citizen TV, Nyoro said his final conversation with the President centred on his decision not to take part in the impeachment process.

“The last conversation we ever had with the President was the sitting on me not participating in the impeachment,” Nyoro said.

The Kiharu MP said the two continued holding meetings for several months afterward because he remained chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.

According to Nyoro, some of his colleagues later told him that there were concerns within political circles that his removal from the influential budget committee could follow Gachagua’s impeachment.

“Some colleagues were fighting, telling him, you just removed Gachagua; you are now removing Ndindi,” he said.

Nyoro further claimed that colleagues who met the President would later report to him that Ruto viewed him as arrogant because he did not seek to personally lobby or “beg” for political favour.

“They used to report to me that he could tell them, ‘huyo kijana ni kiburi kwa sababu haendi kubembeleza,’” Nyoro said.

His remarks come amid renewed political debate over his relationship with the President and his recent decision to leave the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and join the People’s Party of Kenya.

Nyoro has increasingly positioned himself as an independent political voice, with his departure from UDA adding to speculation over the direction of Kenya’s political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
