The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has intensified its crackdown on illicit brews and drug trafficking in Nandi County, with a multi-agency operation resulting in the seizure of large quantities of ethanol, illicit alcohol and bhang.

The operation, led by NACADA Director Benjamin Kuttoh, targeted suspected producers, distributors and sellers of illicit brews, drugs and second-generation alcoholic drinks along the Chepsonoi–Kakamega Forest corridor and in Kapsabet Town.

At Chepsonoi, officers seized more than 500 litres of ethanol and over 100 rolls of bhang. Several suspects were arrested and are being held at Kaimosi Police Station pending arraignment.

In a separate raid in Kapsabet Town, the multi-agency team recovered 100 cartons of Kingdom alcoholic drinks, 150 litres of chang’aa and another 100 rolls of bhang.

NACADA vows tougher action

Speaking during the operations, Kuttoh said NACADA would continue working with security agencies to dismantle networks involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of illicit alcohol and drugs.

He warned that the illicit brew menace has contributed to deaths and continues to negatively affect families and communities across the country.

Kuttoh also called on residents to support the ongoing crackdown by sharing information with security agencies about individuals suspected of producing, selling or distributing illicit and second-generation alcoholic drinks and narcotics.

He said timely public reporting is critical in enabling authorities to respond swiftly and prevent the spread of substance abuse.

The latest raids come amid heightened efforts by authorities to protect communities from the devastating social and health consequences associated with illicit alcohol and drug abuse.
