“Love Is No Excuse for Murder”: Uasin Gishu KUPPET Secretary Sosthene Bellat Condemns Rising Killings of Women

In a hard-hitting statement, Bellat expressed outrage over the growing number of women allegedly being killed by men following relationship disputes, rejection and jealousy.

“We refuse to call this a ‘crime of passion.’ It is murder. It is domestic violence. It is gender-based violence,” Bellat said.

He insisted that emotional distress, heartbreak, jealousy or wounded pride cannot be used to justify violence against women.

Bellat also challenged men who resort to violence, warning that society must stop normalising or excusing such acts under the guise of love or relationship conflicts.

“If you are a man who believes violence is the answer, you are the problem,” he said.

The KUPPET official called on law-enforcement agencies and the justice system to take the strictest possible action against those responsible for killing and abusing women.

His message also extended to victims and survivors of gender-based violence, with Bellat saying society must stand with those affected and ensure that their voices are heard.

“To the victims: We see you. We honor you. To the survivors: We stand with you,” he said.

Bellat's condemnation comes amid growing public concern over violence against women in Kenya, with calls intensifying for stronger prevention measures, faster investigations and accountability for perpetrators.

He ended with a stern warning to those responsible for gender-based violence: “We will not forgive. We will not forget.”
