Kimumu Ward MCA aspirant Kephas Ochieng Ondiek has resigned from the Kenya African National Union (KANU) and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), setting the stage for an intensified political contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ondiek announced his decision after what he described as extensive consultations with residents of Kimumu Ward, his family and political supporters.

In his statement, the aspiring MCA said the decision was not easy, acknowledging the role KANU and its party leader, Dr Gideon Moi, played in his political journey.

He thanked Moi for his mentorship and leadership, as well as the KANU National Executive Council, branch officials and members for supporting him during his time in the party.

Ondiek said his experience in KANU had taught him the values of loyalty, discipline and service, which he intends to carry into his new political chapter.

However, he said consultations with residents of Kimumu had convinced him that the ward needed to align itself with the government in order to improve its chances of benefiting from development programmes.

According to Ondiek, residents want to be part of a political formation that can help attract development projects, bursaries, better roads and economic opportunities to Kimumu Ward.

He said his decision to join UDA is also intended to support the broad-based government agenda associated with President William Ruto, particularly efforts aimed at bringing Kenyans together for development.

Despite the change of party, Ondiek maintained that his political agenda remains unchanged and is anchored on development, unity and accountability.

He reaffirmed his intention to contest for the Kimumu Ward MCA seat in 2027, urging his supporters to accompany him as he begins what he described as a new political journey.

The move is likely to generate fresh political interest in Kimumu Ward as aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with party affiliations expected to play a significant role in shaping the race.

Ondiek's defection adds to the growing political realignments in Uasin Gishu as prospective candidates seek to build stronger grassroots networks ahead of the 2027 polls.
