Uasin Gishu Rehab Clients Acquire Practical Livelihood Skills at Chebororwo ATC

Clients undergoing treatment at the Uasin Gishu County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre in Moiben on Friday visited the Chebororwo Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) in an initiative aimed at equipping them with practical livelihood skills to support their successful reintegration into society.

The exposure visit, organized by the Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB), introduced the clients to various income-generating activities, including dairy farming, coffee cultivation, poultry farming, mushroom production, Bee keeping and agricultural mechanization.

During the tour, the clients received hands-on demonstrations from ATC instructors, enabling them to gain practical knowledge and technical skills that can help them pursue productive economic opportunities after completing their rehabilitation programme.

ADCB Director Koiya Arap Maiyo said the exposure programme forms part of the directorate's holistic rehabilitation approach, which seeks to empower recovering clients with marketable skills that promote self-reliance, restore dignity and reduce the risk of relapse.

"This initiative is meant to ensure that our clients leave the rehabilitation centre not only free from substance dependence but also equipped with practical skills that can help them earn a living and rebuild their lives," said Maiyo.

Chebororwo ATC Director Wilbur Mutai said the institution has, with the support of Governor Jonathan Bii, grown into a leading agricultural training centre, particularly in coffee and dairy farming, providing hands-on training to farmers and community members across Uasin Gishu County.

Mutai encouraged the clients to embrace agriculture and technical skills as sustainable sources of income, noting that engaging in productive enterprises would enable them to remain focused and economically independent as they transition back into their communities.

The exposure visit was led by ADCB Chief Programmes Officer Barnabas Magut, accompanied by officers from the directorate, as part of the county government's continued commitment to supporting long-term recovery through skills development and economic empowerment.
