Uasin Gishu Ready to Host Mashujaa Day 2026, Says Governor Jonathan Bii
Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed the county's readiness to host the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations, describing the event as a historic opportunity to showcase the North Rift region's identity, unity, and economic potential.
Speaking after a consultative meeting at State House chaired by President William Ruto, Governor Bii said preparations for the national celebrations are gathering momentum, with Uasin Gishu set to welcome thousands of guests from across the country.
The governor expressed gratitude to the national government for selecting Uasin Gishu—popularly known as the City of Champions—as the host of this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations.
"This year's Mashujaa Day celebrations, to be hosted in our City of Champions, present a unique opportunity to showcase the identity, unity, and immense potential of the North Rift region," said Governor Bii.
He noted that during the meeting with President Ruto and other leaders, he conveyed the county's appreciation for the confidence placed in Uasin Gishu to stage one of Kenya's most significant national events.
Governor Bii said the county government will work closely with the National Government and neighbouring counties of Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet to ensure the celebrations are successfully organized.
"We look forward to working closely with the National Government and our neighbouring counties of Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet to deliver a befitting celebration that honours the remarkable men and women whose sacrifices shaped our nation," he added.
The annual Mashujaa Day celebrations, marked every October 20, commemorate Kenya's heroes and heroines who contributed to the country's struggle for independence and nation-building. Hosting the event is expected to boost Uasin Gishu's profile, attract investment and tourism, and highlight the region's cultural heritage, sporting excellence, and economic opportunities.
