Tourism CS Rebecca Miano Hails Strong First Half of 2026 as Kenya Emerges as Global Tourism and MICE Destination
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, has hailed the first half of 2026 as a defining period for Kenya's tourism and hospitality sectors, citing remarkable growth, increased international visibility, and the successful positioning of the country as a leading global destination for tourism and business events.
The Cabinet Secretary said Kenya has recorded significant milestones over the past six months, hosting globally renowned personalities, landmark international conferences, and high-profile exhibitions that had never before been held in the country.
Miano attributed the achievements to deliberate government interventions aimed at diversifying Kenya's tourism offering beyond leisure travel by strengthening the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment, improving connectivity, and fostering strategic partnerships with the private sector.
She noted that the Ministry's efforts are transforming Kenya into a preferred destination where international business, investment, innovation, and tourism converge, creating new economic opportunities for communities across the country.
"The first half of 2026 has demonstrated that Kenya is not only a world-class tourism destination but also a leading venue for global dialogue and international events. Through strategic investments and collaboration, we are creating lasting economic impact while strengthening our country's global competitiveness," Miano said.
The CS added that the Ministry remains focused on sustaining the sector's growth in the second half of the year by expanding market access, promoting sustainable tourism, empowering young people through employment and entrepreneurship, and ensuring communities continue to benefit from the industry's growth.
She reaffirmed the government's commitment to positioning Kenya as **"The Origin of Wonder,"** saying the country's unique blend of natural attractions, modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and thriving hospitality industry continues to attract global attention.
"Our vision is to ensure that tourism remains a key driver of inclusive economic growth. As the world increasingly chooses Kenya as a destination for travel, investment, and international events, we are unlocking sustainable opportunities that will benefit current and future generations," she said.
The Cabinet Secretary expressed confidence that the strong momentum recorded in the first half of 2026 will further consolidate Kenya's position as one of Africa's premier tourism and MICE destinations.
