National Police Service Referral Hospital Opens Its Doors to Officers and Families
The National Police Service Referral Hospital (NPSRH), a state-of-the-art 200-bed facility dedicated to serving officers of the National Police Service and their families, was officially opened today.
The facility, now fully operational, marks a major milestone in strengthening healthcare support for security personnel. A total of 130 staff members have already been deployed to drive the hospital’s operations, under the leadership of Ag. Director Ms. Raheli Mukhwana from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), working alongside Mr. Ronald Opili from the National Police Service.
Presiding over the launch was Acting KNH CEO, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, who also became Patient 001 after registering under the hospital’s fully paperless system — a first in Kenya’s public healthcare sector. The hospital’s digital-first approach has been hailed as a landmark in healthcare automation, streamlining services while enhancing efficiency and accountability.
Dr. Lesiyampe praised the achievement and urged staff to embrace teamwork, compassion, and innovation in delivering care.
“We must maximize the resources at our disposal and always remember that compassion is at the heart of healthcare. I am confident that this facility will set a new benchmark for innovation and automation in public healthcare,” he said.
The NPSRH is expected to greatly reduce the burden on other national referral hospitals while ensuring timely, specialized care for police officers and their families.
Officials say the hospital will also serve as a model for digitized public healthcare, providing lessons for future facilities across the country.
