Outrage in Kipkulot as Residents Demand Answers Over Delayed, Poorly Constructed Road Project

Residents of Kipkulot in Emsoo Ward have raised concerns over the slow progress and poor condition of an ongoing road construction project, accusing the Elgeyo Marakwet County Roads Department and the contractor of failing to complete the works within the expected timeline and to the required standards.

The residents say the project has stalled for months, leaving several sections of the road in a poor and impassable state. They argue that the delays have disrupted daily activities, making it difficult for farmers to transport produce to markets, patients to access healthcare facilities, and learners to travel to and from school.

Community members have questioned the pace of the construction works, saying the condition of the road continues to worsen despite the project being underway for an extended period. They have also expressed concerns about the quality of work already undertaken, claiming it does not meet the standards expected for a public infrastructure project.

The residents are now demanding answers from both the County Roads Department and the contractor responsible for the project. They want an explanation for the prolonged delay, a clear timeline indicating when the road will be completed, and assurances that the construction will meet the required specifications.

They further urged the county government to closely supervise the project to ensure taxpayers receive value for money and that the contractor delivers quality work.

The residents emphasized that road infrastructure is critical to economic growth and social development, noting that the poor state of the road continues to affect transport, trade, access to essential services and the overall livelihoods of people living in the area.

They have called on the Elgeyo Marakwet County Government to intervene urgently and ensure the project is completed without further delays, saying the people of Kipkulot deserve reliable road infrastructure that supports development and improves access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
