Obidan Dela Crowned Peace Ambassador as 'Kenyans for Kenyans' Charity Drive Transforms Lives in Eldoret

 Social media influencer, philanthropist and digital content creator Obidan Dela was on Sunday crowned a Peace Ambassador during the Kenyans for Kenyans – Eldoret Edition, an emotional charity event that brought together thousands of residents, political leaders, artists and well-wishers to support two young women from Nandi County living with cerebral palsy.

The colourful event, held at Eldoret Central Primary School Grounds, showcased the growing influence of citizen-led philanthropy, with hundreds of young people responding to a call to support Sharon Jeruto, 19, and Gladys Jerubet, 14, whose lives have been significantly affected by cerebral palsy.

The event was attended by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, Members of County Assembly, business leaders, content creators, musicians and residents from across the North Rift region.

 

In recognition of his humanitarian work and efforts to promote unity through charitable initiatives across the country, Obidan Dela was officially crowned a Peace Ambassador, with leaders praising his commitment to bringing Kenyans together beyond political, ethnic and religious differences.

The recognition comes after years of mobilizing thousands of Kenyans through digital platforms to support vulnerable families, raise medical funds and provide emergency assistance to people in distress.

A Movement Born on Social Media

Addressing the crowd, Obidan Dela said Kenyans for Kenyans began as a simple online initiative on TikTok and Facebook but has since grown into one of the country's most recognized community-driven humanitarian movements.

He explained that the initiative does not belong to any political party or organization but is driven by ordinary Kenyans willing to contribute towards improving the lives of fellow citizens.

"We are not a political party. We are not tribal. We don't have political leaders. I only happen to be the founder of Kenyans for Kenyans, but this movement belongs to every Kenyan who believes in helping another Kenyan," he said.

According to Obidan, the movement has organized successful charity missions in Nairobi, Kisumu, Meru, Nakuru, Eldoret and several other counties, responding to medical emergencies, supporting persons living with disabilities and helping families facing difficult economic circumstances.

"Our purpose is very simple—when a Kenyan is in trouble, we come together and help. We don't ask where they come from or who they support politically. We only ask how we can change their lives," he said.

Supporting Persons Living with Disabilities

The Eldoret edition focused on raising support for Sharon Jeruto and Gladys Jerubet, two young women from Nandi County born with cerebral palsy.

The initiative sought to mobilize financial assistance, specialized medical care, mobility equipment and long-term support aimed at improving their quality of life.

Obidan noted that many families raising children with disabilities continue to struggle with expensive medical care, rehabilitation costs and limited access to specialized equipment.

He called on Kenyans to embrace a culture of compassion by supporting vulnerable members of society even before government assistance reaches them.

"There are people who cannot wait for government programmes. There are families struggling today. If we can come together as Kenyans, we can provide immediate solutions while other support systems are being processed," he said.

Social Media Driving Social Change

Obidan credited social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for transforming charitable work in Kenya.

He said digital platforms have enabled thousands of Kenyans to contribute to fundraising campaigns, share stories of vulnerable families and volunteer their services.

"We have never paid for billboards or newspaper advertisements. We have simply shared stories online and thousands of Kenyans have responded. That shows the power of social media when it is used positively."

He challenged fellow content creators to use their influence responsibly by creating content that changes lives rather than spreading negativity.

"I encourage content creators to use their platforms to solve problems. Digital platforms are not just for entertainment; they are also powerful tools for creating employment, mobilizing resources and giving hope to vulnerable families."

 

Calls for Greater SHA Registration

Obidan also encouraged Kenyans to enroll in the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme, saying it has helped many patients reduce huge hospital bills.

He acknowledged that while many challenges still exist within the health sector, medical insurance remains critical for vulnerable households facing life-threatening illnesses.

"Our work is not to criticize the government. We focus on complementing what is already being done by helping families access healthcare and encouraging more Kenyans to register for SHA."

 

Oscar Sudi Pledges Continued Support

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the two beneficiaries receive continuous support beyond the fundraising event.

Sudi said leaders present had agreed to work together to improve the girls' access to healthcare, assistive devices and other essential services.

"Today alongside Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Jonathan Bii, Trans Nzoia Senator Hon. Allan Chesang, Comedian Obidan Dela and a host of MCAs, we attended the Kenyans for Kenyans – Eldoret Edition at Eldoret Central Primary School.

We were there to support Sharon Jeruto, 19, and Gladys Jerubet, 14, two young women from Nandi County living with cerebral palsy.

 

As leaders, we have committed to walk with them and ensure they access better medical care, mobility support and a more dignified life. Our goal is to make their lives better."

Governor Bii Commends Community Spirit

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim praised the initiative for demonstrating the strength of community solidarity.

"A caring society is defined by how it embraces and uplifts its most vulnerable," the governor said.

He described the overwhelming turnout as proof that Kenyans remain willing to stand together whenever vulnerable members of society require assistance.

"I commend Obidan for championing this noble initiative and for using his online platform to inspire hope, mobilize goodwill and remind us that the greatest impact we can make is by standing together in service of others."

 

A Growing National Humanitarian Movement

Since its launch nearly four years ago, Kenyans for Kenyans has evolved into a nationwide volunteer movement bringing together content creators, professionals, business people and ordinary citizens to respond to humanitarian crises.

The initiative has supported cancer patients, persons living with disabilities, vulnerable children and families unable to afford life-saving medical treatment.

Organizers say the movement continues to receive reports from across the country through social media, allowing volunteers to identify urgent cases and mobilize support within hours.

The recognition of Obidan Dela as a Peace Ambassador further underscored the growing impact of the initiative, with leaders expressing hope that the movement will continue inspiring unity, compassion and volunteerism across Kenya.

As music, entertainment and philanthropy blended throughout the Eldoret event, one message resonated strongly among participants: that regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or social status, Kenyans have the collective power to transform lives by standing together in support of those most in need.
