Murkomen Partners With Rift Valley Influencers in Fight Against Drugs, Alcohol and Social Ills
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised artistes and social media influencers for using their platforms to drive positive change, saying creatives have an important role in combating drug and substance abuse, promoting mental health awareness and strengthening peace and national cohesion.
Speaking after meeting a group of social media influencers from the Rift Valley region on Thursday afternoon, Murkomen said the government is ready to work closely with creatives and digital content creators in addressing challenges affecting young people and communities.
The group, known as Team Strong, has been using social media to mobilise support for vulnerable families through online fundraisers while also leading campaigns against drug and substance abuse.
Murkomen commended the influencers for going beyond entertainment and using their reach to inspire social responsibility, noting that their efforts are helping to create awareness among young people on the dangers of alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances.
Among those recognised was Rhoda Chemutai, who has been championing family values through social media campaigns. The Interior CS said such initiatives are essential in strengthening families and building more peaceful communities.
“We are committed to partnering with creatives in our ongoing campaign against alcohol and drugs and in fostering peace and cohesion in our country,” Murkomen said.
The government has intensified its campaign against illicit alcohol, narcotics and substance abuse, particularly among the youth, as concerns continue to rise over the social and economic impact of addiction in many parts of the country.
Murkomen said partnerships with influencers, artistes and other creatives will help ensure anti-drug and peace messages reach more people, especially young audiences who are highly active on digital platforms.
