Millicent Omanga Boosts Girls' Education with Sanitary Towel Drive at Dandora School

By Anthony Mamuli

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has distributed sanitary towels to female pupils at Tom Mboya Primary School in Dandora Phase 3, Nairobi, in a renewed effort to tackle period poverty and keep girls in school.

The initiative brought together school administrators, teachers, parents, and community leaders, who hailed the donation as a timely intervention for learners struggling to access menstrual hygiene products.

Speaking during the event, Omanga underscored the need to ensure that no girl is forced to miss classes because of her menstrual cycle, describing access to sanitary towels as a matter of dignity, health, and education.

"Every girl deserves the opportunity to attend school confidently and without interruption. By providing sanitary towels, we are investing in their education, health, and future," Omanga said.

The beneficiaries welcomed the donation, saying it would ease the financial burden on their families while enabling them to attend school consistently without disruptions.

Teachers at the school noted that inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products remains one of the leading causes of absenteeism among adolescent girls, and praised the initiative for helping bridge the gap.

The event also featured a menstrual hygiene awareness session, where the girls were encouraged to observe proper hygiene practices, build self-confidence, and remain focused on their academic goals.

Community leaders commended Omanga's gesture and called on more leaders, corporate organizations, and well-wishers to support initiatives aimed at ending period poverty and empowering girls through education.

The sanitary towel distribution is part of broader efforts to improve menstrual health management in Kenya, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to learn in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment without barriers caused by lack of essential hygiene products.
