KSB, RestoringVision Explore Partnership to Expand Access to Reading Glasses in Kenya

The Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) has intensified efforts to improve access to vision care by engaging in talks with global vision care organization RestoringVision on expanding the availability of affordable reading glasses across the country.

The strategic meeting, held on Tuesday, brought together KSB Executive Director Samson Waweru and RestoringVision's Regional Director for Africa, Stella Jane, to discuss collaborative approaches to addressing presbyopia, an age-related condition that affects the ability to see nearby objects clearly.

The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships to facilitate the last-mile delivery of near vision glasses, particularly to underserved and hard-to-reach communities where access to eye care services remains limited.

According to KSB, the proposed collaboration seeks to make affordable reading glasses more accessible, enabling thousands of Kenyans to improve their quality of life through better vision.

"Access to clear near vision is essential for everyday activities such as reading, working, learning, and carrying out daily tasks independently," KSB said, noting that expanding access to vision solutions will have a significant social and economic impact.

The partnership is expected to support community-based vision care initiatives by ensuring that people living in remote areas can access quality near vision glasses without facing financial or geographical barriers.

Presbyopia affects millions of adults worldwide, particularly those aged 40 years and above, yet many remain without appropriate corrective eyewear due to cost and limited access to eye care services.

KSB said it remains committed to working with partners such as RestoringVision to bridge the gap in vision care and ensure that no one is left behind because of preventable vision challenges.

The organization expressed optimism that the collaboration will contribute to a future where clear near vision is accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live, helping more Kenyans remain productive, independent, and engaged in their communities.
