Wetang’ula Rallies Eldoret Residents Behind Ruto’s Second-Term Bid
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Kenyans to embrace unity, patriotism and mutual responsibility, saying the country can only achieve meaningful progress when citizens support one another.
Speaking on Friday during the Tutam rally held at Silverline in Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County, Wetang’ula urged residents to rally behind President William Ruto’s bid for a second term in office.
The Speaker was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, several Members of Parliament and Presidential aide Farouk Kibet.
“We must be proud as Kenyans and we must be each other’s keeper,” Wetang’ula said, calling for national cohesion and collective support for the government’s development agenda.
He asked residents to ignore critics whom he accused of attempting to discredit President Ruto’s development record in the region. Wetang’ula said the Kenya Kwanza administration had demonstrated that development should not be determined by political affiliations, ethnicity or geographical boundaries.
According to the Speaker, regions that had been neglected by previous administrations were now benefiting from government projects aimed at improving infrastructure, livelihoods and access to essential services.
Wetang’ula also encouraged eligible voters to take advantage of the government’s move to relax conditions for acquiring national identity cards. He said the initiative would enable more young people and other eligible citizens to register as voters and participate in the country’s democratic process.
He urged residents to ensure they obtain identification documents in good time so they can exercise their constitutional right to elect leaders of their choice in future elections.
The Speaker further welcomed the securing of funding for the expansion of the Rironi–Mau Summit highway into a dual carriageway, extending towards Malaba.
He said the major infrastructure project would ease the movement of people, goods and services along one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
Wetang’ula noted that the road expansion would open up the North Rift and Western Kenya regions for trade and investment, while strengthening business links with neighbouring countries in the East African region.
The leaders used the rally to mobilise support for the government and reaffirm their commitment to advancing development projects across the country.
