Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule Deepens Climate Action Agenda Through Strategic Agroforestry Partnership
Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule has continued to distinguish herself as one of the county's most hardworking and hands-on leaders, spearheading initiatives that strengthen climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable agricultural development.
In her relentless efforts to improve the livelihoods of Kilifi residents, the Deputy Governor convened a strategic meeting with agroforestry partners from the Institute of Participatory Development–Kulamusana (IPD-K), Kwetu Training Centre, and Anglican Development Services (ADS Pwani), led by IPD-K Chief Executive Officer Raphael Mzungu, to discuss the implementation of the Dzalani Farmers Initiative (2026–2028).
The three-year programme, which has secured additional funding, will scale up sustainable agricultural land management and agroforestry practices across Kilifi County. The initiative is expected to promote climate-smart agriculture, restore degraded ecosystems, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of farming communities through environmentally sustainable practices.
Deputy Governor Mbetsa noted that farm forestry, a devolved function, remains central to the county's agenda of integrated land use, environmental conservation, and climate action. She emphasized that strategic partnerships with development organisations are essential in accelerating sustainable development while equipping farmers to adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.
"We remain committed to building strong partnerships that empower our farmers, protect our environment, and create resilient communities. Sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation must go hand in hand if we are to secure a better future for the people of Kilifi," she said.
Known for her tireless work ethic and people-centred leadership, Mbetsa has consistently championed programmes that combine economic empowerment with environmental stewardship. Her leadership continues to drive initiatives that deliver practical solutions to challenges facing farmers while advancing the county's climate resilience agenda.
The meeting was also attended by Director of Agriculture Safari Ziro and Director of Environment and Climate Change Jimmy Kahindi, reflecting the county government's coordinated approach to integrating agriculture, forestry, and environmental sustainability.
The forthcoming launch of the Dzalani Farmers Initiative later this month is expected to mark another significant milestone in Kilifi County's efforts to build a greener, more resilient, and economically empowered future for its farming communities.
