Governor Jonathan Bii: New Kipkarren Dam Project to Boost Eldoret's Water Supply Beyond 90,000 Cubic Metres Daily
In a statement, the governor said the rapid growth of the "City of Champions" must be matched by strategic infrastructure investments, particularly in water, to meet the needs of residents, businesses, and industries.
"The growth of our City of Champions is being matched by deliberate investments that guarantee a reliable supply of one of life's most essential resources—clean water," Bii said.
According to the governor, the Kipkarren Dam Water Treatment Works is progressing steadily and is expected to play a critical role in strengthening water security across the city.
Once completed, the facility will have the capacity to treat between 24,000 and 25,000 cubic metres of water per day, with room for future expansion to 32,500 cubic metres daily as demand continues to rise.
Bii noted that the project will increase Eldoret's total daily water supply to more than 90,000 cubic metres, significantly improving access to clean and safe water for households, schools, hospitals, industries, businesses, and the growing number of affordable housing developments.
He emphasized that the county government is investing in resilient infrastructure to ensure the city's growth is not hindered by shortages of essential services.
"We will remain ahead of urbanization by investing in resilient water infrastructure that anticipates future demand," the governor said.
The Kipkarren Dam Water Treatment Works forms part of the Uasin Gishu County Government's broader strategy to support Eldoret's rapid urban expansion by improving access to essential services and creating a foundation for sustainable economic growth.
The project is expected to ease pressure on the city's existing water supply system while enhancing the quality of life for thousands of residents as Eldoret continues to grow into one of Kenya's leading urban centres.
