A new political conversation is taking shape in Soy Constituency after Nick Kipruto Birech, popularly known as Ng’elechei, returned home following years of living and working in the United States.

Birech’s homecoming drew hundreds of residents, church leaders, elders, youth, women and friends, who turned out to welcome him back and express optimism about his entry into local leadership and development conversations.

The reception has ignited debate across the constituency, with residents and political observers describing Birech’s return as the emergence of a new generation of leaders seeking to place service, accountability and people-centred development at the heart of representation.

Birech says he is returning with international exposure, professional networks and a renewed commitment to serve the people of Soy. His proposed development blueprint, dubbed “Wadi Saba • Sera Saba,” is built around a seven-point agenda.

The agenda prioritises education; roads, water and electricity; youth and women empowerment; farmer empowerment; support for MSMEs, cooperatives and boda boda operators; partnerships for development; and accountability in the use of NG-CDF resources.

“Leadership must be about listening to the people, responding to their needs and ensuring that every public resource delivers value to the community,” Birech has said in his engagements with residents.

In the coming weeks, Birech is expected to begin a listening tour across Soy’s seven wards, where he will meet residents, hear their concerns and outline his vision for the constituency.

The planned engagements are expected to focus on key issues affecting households, including education opportunities, youth unemployment, farm productivity, road infrastructure, water access and the growth of small businesses.

With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, Birech’s return is likely to attract increased political attention in Soy, as residents assess whether his “Wadi Saba • Sera Saba” agenda can translate into a strong grassroots movement.
