Felix Koskei Challenges Professionals to Drive Kenya's Economic Transformation Through Value Addition
By Mercy Otieno
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has challenged professionals across the country to leverage their expertise to accelerate economic diversification, strengthen institutions and create sustainable opportunities that will secure Kenya's long-term prosperity.
Speaking during the Wareng Powerhouse 8th Anniversary Leadership Dinner in Eldoret, held under the theme Driving Economic Diversification for Resilience, Global Competitiveness and Shared Prosperity, Koskei said the country's future depends on citizens working together to build strong institutions that transcend individual interests.
"Institutions are rarely defined by where they begin. They are defined by what their members choose to build together over time," Koskei said, adding that enduring institutions are built on commitment, trust and a shared vision.
He urged professionals to translate their knowledge into practical initiatives that create jobs, strengthen communities and improve livelihoods. He also encouraged professional networks to invest in cooperative ventures, education and mentorship programmes that empower young people and nurture future leaders.
"The greatest limitation any community faces is rarely a shortage of talent. It is the failure to organise that talent around a common purpose," he noted.
Koskei called on experts in technology, finance, healthcare, engineering and entrepreneurship to champion enterprise development, innovation and regional economic growth, saying quality, competitiveness and innovation will determine Kenya's success in the global marketplace.
Focusing on the North Rift region, the Head of Public Service urged communities to move beyond producing raw agricultural commodities and embrace value addition through processing, packaging, branding and innovation.
"Our region must shift from being producers to becoming value creators. Prosperity will come when we process, package and brand our products for competitive international markets," he said.
He emphasized that value addition would not only increase farmers' incomes but also create employment, expand export opportunities and strengthen Kenya's economic resilience.
The leadership dinner brought together senior government officials and professionals from across the region, including Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Principal Secretaries Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Prof. Julius Bitok, Joel Arumonyang and Dr. Ouma Oluga, Senator Jackson Mandago, Members of Parliament, heads of state corporations, government agencies and leaders from various professional sectors.
Koskei challenged participants to work collectively in building resilient institutions and unlocking the country's economic potential, saying collaboration among professionals remains key to achieving inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
