CS Rebecca Miano Inspects BICC Project as Kenya Strengthens Position as Africa's Premier MICE Destination

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Rebecca Miano, EGH, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming Kenya into Africa's leading destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) following an inspection tour of the ongoing **Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC)** construction site.

During the visit to Bomas of Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary assessed the progress of works and reviewed key milestones of the flagship project, which is expected to redefine Kenya's conference and business tourism landscape.

The BICC is anchored by a state-of-the-art convention facility with a seating capacity of more than 10,000 delegates, positioning Kenya to host major international summits, diplomatic forums, global conventions and large-scale trade exhibitions that meet world-class standards.

CS Miano noted that the complex has been carefully designed to blend modern conferencing technology with the country's rich cultural heritage, leveraging the iconic Bomas of Kenya to offer delegates a unique experience where international business seamlessly converges with authentic Kenyan traditions.

She observed that the development is a strategic investment that will significantly enhance Kenya's competitiveness in the lucrative global MICE market while complementing the country's broader tourism diversification agenda.

Beyond strengthening conference tourism, the Cabinet Secretary said the project is expected to generate substantial economic benefits by increasing international visitor arrivals, boosting hotel occupancy, stimulating transport and logistics services, supporting local supply chains and creating employment opportunities for thousands of young Kenyans across the tourism value chain.

The BICC is also expected to position Nairobi among Africa's leading conference destinations by attracting high-profile international events that contribute to foreign exchange earnings while showcasing Kenya as a preferred hub for business, investment and innovation.

CS Miano expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of construction, reiterating the government's determination to deliver a world-class convention facility capable of meeting the growing demand for premium conference infrastructure on the continent.
