The Eldoret National Polytechnic Leads Major Clean-Up Drive Ahead of World Environment Day
In a show of commitment to environmental conservation and community service, The Eldoret National Polytechnic today joined residents and local stakeholders in a clean-up exercise at Juakali Township in Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.
According to the Chief principal Dr Charles Koech the activity forms part of the institution's build-up events towards the celebration of World Environment Day, which is observed globally every year on June 5 under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Students, staff members, and community participants took part in collecting waste, clearing drainage systems, and beautifying public spaces within the township. The exercise aimed to promote environmental responsibility, proper waste management, and community awareness on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Dr Koech emphasized the institution's commitment to sustainable environmental practices and its role in supporting national and global efforts to combat pollution and environmental degradation.
Residents welcomed the initiative, noting that such collaborative efforts not only improve the cleanliness of the area but also inspire communities to embrace environmental stewardship.
The clean-up exercise is among several activities lined up by the institution to mark World Environment Day 2026, whose global focus continues to encourage collective action towards protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future for generations to come.
As the countdown to June 5 continues, The Eldoret National Polytechnic has reaffirmed its dedication to environmental conservation, urging members of the public to play an active role in keeping their surroundings clean and green.
