SK Macharia Praises Tenwek Hospital After World-Class Eye Treatment, Says Kenyans No Longer Need to Seek Healthcare Abroad
Media mogul and Royal Media Services Chairman Dr. S.K. Macharia has praised AGC Tenwek Hospital for providing world-class specialized healthcare, saying his experience at the facility convinced him that Kenyans no longer need to travel overseas for advanced medical treatment.
Dr. Macharia visited the renowned Bomet-based hospital for an eye check-up and consultation after initially planning to seek specialized treatment abroad. However, after learning about Tenwek Hospital's advanced eye care services, he opted to receive treatment locally—a decision he described as life-changing.
Following his consultation, Dr. Macharia expressed his satisfaction with the quality of care, modern medical technology, and professionalism demonstrated by the hospital's team.
"You do not have to travel out of Kenya to have these services. I now know that we have facilities such as Tenwek Hospital offering the same quality care you would receive in major hospitals abroad. I normally play golf, but because of the problem I had, I could not play well. Now I have received my glasses, and I cannot wait to get back on the course," he said.
During a courtesy visit to the hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ben Siele, Dr. Macharia thanked the institution for the excellent care he received after being referred by a family member who had previously been treated at the facility.
Impressed by the hospital's capabilities, the Royal Media Services chairman pledged to partner with AGC Tenwek Hospital through his media platforms to raise public awareness about the specialized healthcare services available in Kenya.
Beyond its internationally recognized Eye Centre, AGC Tenwek Hospital has established itself as one of Kenya's leading referral hospitals in specialized treatment. Through the state-of-the-art AGC Tenwek Cardiothoracic Centre, which was inaugurated two years ago, the hospital now performs approximately 60 percent of all heart surgeries conducted in Kenya, making it one of the country's leading cardiac care institutions.
The hospital also offers advanced services in orthopaedics, neurosurgery, family medicine, and several other specialized disciplines, combining cutting-edge technology with compassionate, faith-based healthcare.
Speaking during the visit, CEO Ben Siele thanked Dr. Macharia for placing his trust in the hospital and reaffirmed Tenwek's commitment to delivering quality, compassionate healthcare, medical training, and spiritual ministry to every patient and family.
"We are honoured by Dr. Macharia's visit and his confidence in our services. Our mission remains to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare while ensuring every patient receives compassionate and holistic care," Siele said.
The CEO also highlighted the hospital's Compassionate Care Fund, which supports vulnerable patients who cannot afford life-saving treatment. He noted that the hospital continues to mobilize resources to ensure no patient is denied care due to financial constraints.
Among the key fundraising initiatives is the upcoming Heart in Motion Marathon, where Mr. Siele will participate alongside other partners to raise funds for needy cardiac patients and strengthen the Compassionate Care Fund.
Dr. Macharia's endorsement is expected to boost confidence in Kenya's healthcare sector and reinforce growing calls for patients to utilize the country's expanding network of world-class medical facilities instead of seeking treatment abroad.
