Veteran Educationist Christine Chumba Retires After Distinguished Career

Mrs. Christine Chumba, OGW, a revered educationist and mentor, has officially retired from active public service after an illustrious teaching and administrative career spanning over two decades. She bows out as the Chief Principal of Kipsigis Girls High School, where she served from October 2021 to April 2024.

As news of her retirement spread, tributes poured in from former students, colleagues, parents, and education stakeholders across the country, all celebrating a woman whose leadership helped shape generations of young professionals. Many of those who passed through her mentorship have gone on to excel in diverse fields including law, medicine, engineering, teaching, agriculture, and public service.

Mrs. Chumba’s career is marked by consistent excellence and transformative leadership in some of Kenya’s leading girls’ schools. Before her tenure at Kipsigis Girls High School, she served as Principal of Moi Girls Eldoret between 2019 and 2021, and earlier led Nakuru Girls High School from 2011 to 2018. She also served as Principal of Moi Tea Girls Secondary School from 2006 to 2011, after rising through the ranks as Deputy Principal at Bahati Girls High School between 2004 and 2006.

Known for her firm but compassionate leadership style, Mrs. Chumba earned widespread respect for promoting academic excellence, discipline, and holistic student development. Her contribution to education was formally recognized when she was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), a national honour acknowledging her outstanding service to the nation.

Speaking during her retirement, Mrs. Chumba described her exit from public service as a transition rather than an end. “Retired but not tired,” she remarked, noting that she is now turning her focus to farming, a venture she says has long been close to her heart.

As she steps into this new chapter, the education fraternity remembers Mrs. Christine Chumba not only as an accomplished administrator, but as a mentor whose legacy lives on through thousands of empowered young women across Kenya.
