NAKHUMICHA DECLARES GOVERNORIAL BID, VOWS TO UNSEAT NATEMBEYA IN TRANS NZOIA

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has formally declared her intention to contest for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown with incumbent Governor George Natembeya.

Speaking during a public engagement forum, Nakhumicha expressed confidence that she will emerge victorious, arguing that the county needs leadership that is more responsive to the needs of residents and focused on development.

"I will defeat George Natembeya next year and take over as the next Governor of Trans Nzoia. The people of Trans Nzoia need a leader who understands them and is ready to transform their lives," she said.

The former CS stated that her decision to join the race was informed by consultations with residents, community leaders, youth groups, women organizations, and professionals across the county. She said many residents had expressed a desire for a new leadership approach that prioritizes service delivery, economic empowerment, and improved infrastructure.

Nakhumicha pledged to champion agriculture, healthcare, education, youth employment, and industrial growth if elected governor. She noted that Trans Nzoia, often referred to as Kenya's breadbasket, possesses enormous economic potential that remains underutilized.

She further promised to work closely with farmers to improve access to markets, agricultural inputs, and value addition opportunities aimed at increasing household incomes.

Her declaration is expected to intensify political activity in the county, with analysts predicting one of the most competitive gubernatorial contests in the region. Governor Natembeya, who has maintained a strong political presence in the county, is expected to seek re-election, setting up a fierce battle for the seat.

Political observers say the race could significantly reshape the political landscape of Trans Nzoia as aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the election period.

As campaigns gradually gather momentum, residents will be keenly watching the unfolding contest between the former Cabinet Secretary and the incumbent governor, with both leaders expected to outline their visions for the future of the county in the months ahead.
