Mystery Deepens as DNA Confirms Missing Teacher Found Dead in Nyambene Forest

A family in Igembe is mourning the tragic loss of their loved one after DNA tests confirmed that human remains discovered in Nyambene Forest belong to Fredrick Gitiye, a teacher at Kindani High School who disappeared in December 2025.

The confirmation, announced on Friday, May 29, has brought an end to nearly six months of uncertainty for Gitiye's family, who had tirelessly searched for him since his disappearance.

Maua Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Sammy Nthiwa revealed that forensic analysis had positively identified the remains.

"The DNA sampling has come out today and has revealed that 99.9 per cent of it is him," Nthiwa told journalists.

According to investigators, the body was found hanging from a tree deep inside Nyambene Forest, raising fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the teacher's death.

While the DNA results have provided closure, they have also intensified the family's grief and renewed calls for justice. Relatives are now appealing to human rights organisations and relevant authorities to support efforts aimed at uncovering what happened to Gitiye during the months he was missing.

"We have waited for answers for months. Now that we know it is him, we want the truth," a family member said.

The shocking development has sparked anger and concern among residents of Igembe, who gathered to demand a comprehensive investigation into the death. Community members expressed fears over what they described as a growing trend of unexplained disappearances in the region and called on security agencies to enhance the safety of residents.

At Kindani High School, the news has left teachers, students, and staff devastated. Colleagues described Gitiye as a dedicated educator who was passionate about teaching and deeply committed to his students. His sudden disappearance had shocked the school community, many of whom actively participated in search efforts.

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause and time of death. Authorities say all possible leads will be pursued as detectives work to piece together the events that led to the teacher's disappearance and eventual death.

As the investigation continues, Gitiye's family is seeking justice and answers while preparing to lay their loved one to rest after months of painful uncertainty.
