FORD Kenya Closes Ranks Behind Wetang’ula, Dismisses Defection Rumours as Political Propaganda
By Margaret Naishorua
FORD Kenya leaders have strongly defended party leader Moses Wetang’ula, dismissing reports of internal divisions and claims that some members are planning to defect to other political parties.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, senior party officials maintained that FORD Kenya remains united, stable, and focused on strengthening its support base across the country. They accused political opponents of spreading false information aimed at creating confusion within the party and weakening its influence ahead of future political contests.
The leaders insisted that Wetang’ula continues to enjoy overwhelming support from party members and supporters across the country.
“Our party is stable and there is no truth in the claims that members are leaving,” one official stated. “We are fully behind our party leader Moses Wetang’ula, and we are working together for the future growth and success of this party.”
Another party leader described the alleged defections as a deliberate political strategy designed to undermine FORD Kenya’s standing in national politics. He urged members to remain focused on grassroots mobilization and ignore what he termed as political propaganda.
“Those spreading these rumours want to create divisions where none exist. Our members should remain united and continue supporting the party’s development agenda,” he said.
The defence of Wetang’ula comes amid growing political speculation and shifting alliances within Kenya’s political landscape as leaders position themselves ahead of future elections. In recent weeks, reports have emerged linking the National Assembly Speaker to possible political realignments, claims that party officials have now dismissed as baseless and politically motivated.
Political analysts observe that rumours of defections and internal wrangles are common during periods of political transition, particularly when parties are seeking to consolidate support and strengthen their bargaining power within broader coalitions.
Despite the speculation, FORD Kenya leaders reiterated their commitment to working with political allies while expanding the party’s influence in key regions across the country. They emphasized that unity remains the party’s greatest strength and warned against internal disputes that could derail its agenda.
The leaders called on supporters to remain loyal to the party and continue rallying behind Wetang’ula’s leadership, expressing confidence that FORD Kenya will emerge stronger and more influential in the evolving political environment.
“We remain focused on growing our party, serving our supporters, and advancing our political agenda. FORD Kenya is united, and our commitment to the people remains unwavering,” the leaders said.
Their remarks are expected to calm growing speculation surrounding the party’s future and reaffirm Wetang’ula’s position at the helm of one of Kenya’s oldest political parties.
