Faith, Integrity and Leadership Needed to Heal a Nation, Says Dr Esther Muchemi
Samchi Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Esther Muchemi has called on Kenyans to embrace integrity, truth and servant leadership as the antidote to the social, economic and moral challenges confronting the country.
In her morning reflection titled *"What's in the Pot?"*, Dr Muchemi drew inspiration from the biblical account of the Prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 4, likening the nation's current challenges to a pot of stew that had been contaminated by poisonous gourds.
She said Kenya, like many institutions, businesses and families, had started on a promising path but now faced threats arising from corruption, tribalism, greed, dishonesty, gossip and other destructive practices that continue to erode public trust and national cohesion.
"When the danger reaches a level that threatens everyone, we cannot afford to ignore the warning signs," she said, noting that Elisha did not dwell on assigning blame but instead focused on restoring the poisoned stew by adding flour.
Dr Muchemi said the "flour" needed today represents integrity, truth, love, compassion, justice, accountability and selfless leadership.
Reflecting on the biblical narrative, she identified three groups that mirror present-day society: ordinary citizens striving to survive under difficult circumstances, individuals who introduce harmful practices into shared systems, and courageous leaders who step forward with solutions that restore hope.
She challenged Kenyans to examine the role they play in society, saying the country's challenges require collective responsibility rather than endless accusations.
"There are many pots carrying dangerous ingredients, and we cannot continue consuming what is poisoning our institutions, businesses, communities and relationships. This is not the time for blame games. It is time to find the flour," she said.
Dr Muchemi urged leaders across the public and private sectors, faith communities and citizens to prioritise ethical leadership and practical solutions that promote unity, resilience and sustainable national development.
