CS Rebecca Miano Welcomes Progress on the Bomas International Convention Complex
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, has welcomed the significant progress being made in the construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC), describing the project as a transformative investment that will strengthen Kenya's position as a premier destination for meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and tourism.
The CS expressed her appreciation following President **William Ruto's** inspection of the ongoing works and his commitment to resolving key implementation bottlenecks to ensure the project is completed within schedule. The President also chaired a high-level meeting focused on accelerating construction and guaranteeing adequate and reliable power infrastructure to support the world-class facility.
According to CS Miano, the BICC represents a major milestone in Kenya's efforts to expand its tourism offerings beyond traditional leisure travel by tapping into the rapidly growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) market. Once completed, the complex will significantly enhance Nairobi's competitiveness as a leading conferencing and events hub in East and Central Africa.
"The progress being recorded at the Bomas International Convention Complex is encouraging and aligns perfectly with our vision of positioning Kenya as a global tourism and business destination. Modern conference infrastructure is essential in attracting major regional and international events that generate substantial economic benefits for our people," noted CS Miano.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to elevate Kenya's capacity to host large-scale international gatherings while responding to evolving global conference and events preferences. This strategic investment will not only increase visitor arrivals but also create employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses, and contribute to broader economic growth.
CS Miano reiterated that the BICC will play a critical role in achieving the government's ambitious tourism targets of attracting more than five million visitors annually and generating over KSh1 trillion in tourism revenue by 2028.
As construction progresses, the project continues to symbolize Kenya's commitment to modern infrastructure development, economic transformation, and the strengthening of Nairobi's status as Africa's preferred destination for international conferences and events.
