CS Rebecca Miano Champions Women and Youth Empowerment at Nyandarua Community Forum

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots economic resilience through targeted empowerment programs for women and youth.

Speaking in Ngorika, Kanjuiri Ward, Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County during a transformative women and community empowerment forum, CS Miano emphasized that empowering women and young people is a direct investment in the long-term economic stability of communities.

She noted that beyond government initiatives such as the Uwezo Fund, NYOTA programs, and Women Enterprise Fund, there is increased focus on youth-led transformation through the modernization of local Youth Polytechnics (TVETs). These institutions are being strengthened to equip young people with practical skills in areas such as textile technology, beauty therapy, and other technical disciplines that enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

The CS further highlighted ongoing development initiatives, including flagship projects such as the Ol Kalou Affordable Housing Project, which she said is creating hundreds of immediate job opportunities for local youth while contributing to broader socio-economic development in the region.

According to Miano, such investments are designed to ensure holistic growth for families and communities across Nyandarua County by combining skills development, access to finance, and infrastructure expansion.

She reiterated that tourism and hospitality remain key drivers of grassroots economic growth, noting that the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is committed to working closely with other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that women and youth are at the forefront of opportunities within the sector.

By equipping communities with the right tools, financial literacy, and access to opportunities, CS Miano said Kenya is laying a strong foundation for sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

She concluded by urging continued collaboration between government, private sector actors, and local communities in unlocking the full potential of Kenya’s human capital.
