Shock as Former Bungoma MP Mzee Patrick Wangamati Dies While Undergoing Treatment in Bungoma
Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has announced the death of his father, Mzee Patrick Wangamati, describing him as a respected elder and dedicated leader who served the people with distinction.
In a statement released on Monday morning, Wangamati said the former Member of Parliament passed away at around 4:00 a.m. while receiving treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Bungoma after a prolonged illness.
According to the former governor, Mzee Wangamati had in recent months been in and out of hospital, receiving specialized treatment at Nairobi Hospital and Bungoma West Hospital before his demise.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Mzee Patrick Wangamati, who rested this morning at 4:00 a.m.,” said Wangamati.
He described his late father as a respected community elder whose leadership and counsel touched many lives across Bungoma County and beyond.
The family has appealed to friends, relatives, leaders and members of the public to keep them in prayers as they mourn the loss of the veteran politician.
“As we come to terms with this great loss, we humbly ask for prayers, comfort and support through this difficult period,” the statement added.
Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family in the coming days.
Leaders and residents from across Bungoma County have continued to send messages of condolence to the Wangamati family following the announcement.
