Ruku Urges Clergy to Offer Constructive Criticism to Strengthen Governance

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has called on religious leaders to embrace objective and constructive criticism as a way of strengthening governance and improving service delivery in the country.

Ruku made the remarks on Sunday after arriving at AIC Kaplamai in Chesumei Constituency, Nandi County, where he attended a church service alongside Tinderet MP Julius Melly.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasised the important role the church plays in holding leaders accountable, noting that faith-based institutions remain trusted voices in shaping public discourse and guiding national development.

He urged clergy to ensure that their engagement with leaders remains balanced and solution-oriented, rather than divisive.

“Criticism should be objective and geared towards building and improving, not tearing down,” Ruku said, encouraging religious leaders to also acknowledge government achievements alongside areas that require improvement.

Ruku further noted that constructive engagement between the government and the church is essential for fostering unity and enhancing accountability in leadership.

His remarks come amid ongoing calls for closer collaboration between state institutions and faith-based organisations in addressing social and governance challenges at the grassroots level.
