Road Shake-Up: Uasin Gishu Police Boss Benjamin Mwanthi Appointed New Traffic Commandant
Benjamin Mwanthi has been appointed the new Traffic Commandant in the latest changes within the National Police Service.
Mwanthi, who has been serving as the County Police Commander for Uasin Gishu County, takes over from Dr Fredrick Ochieng, who has been recalled to police headquarters at Vigilance House.
The changes were announced by Eliud Lagat as part of ongoing restructuring within the Kenya Police Service aimed at strengthening operations and improving service delivery.
Mwanthi’s appointment comes at a time when the country continues to grapple with rising road accidents, traffic congestion in major towns, and growing public concern over enforcement on Kenyan roads. His extensive policing experience is expected to play a key role in shaping traffic management and road safety strategies across the country.
Sources within the service say the reshuffle is intended to inject fresh leadership into critical departments as the police service intensifies reforms and operational efficiency.
Dr Ochieng, who previously headed the Traffic Department, now moves to Vigilance House for redeployment in what insiders describe as a routine but strategic transfer.
The appointment of Mwanthi is likely to attract public attention, especially from motorists and road safety stakeholders eager to see tougher enforcement and smoother traffic operations under the new command.
