Red Wave Takes Over Nairobi CBD as Arsenal Fans Hold Trophy Parade After Premier League Glory
Thousands of jubilant Arsenal F.C. supporters flooded the streets of Nairobi’s Central Business District on Wednesday in a spectacular trophy parade celebrating the club’s long-awaited English Premier League triumph.
Draped in red and white jerseys, waving giant Arsenal flags, and chanting club anthems, fans transformed the heart of the Kenyan capital into what many described as “North London in Nairobi.” The celebrations stretched from Moi Avenue through Kenyatta Avenue, with motorists forced to slow down as ecstatic supporters danced, sang, and marched through the city center.
The parade, organized by local Arsenal supporters’ groups, began shortly after midday and quickly attracted huge crowds of football lovers and curious onlookers. Fans carried replica Premier League trophies, smoke flares lit up the streets, and vuvuzelas echoed across the CBD as supporters celebrated what they called a “historic season.”
“This is more than football for us. We have waited years for this moment,” said one supporter wrapped in an Arsenal flag near the Globe Cinema roundabout. “Today Nairobi belongs to Arsenal.”
Videos circulating online showed crowds chanting manager Mikel Arteta’s name while others sang famous terrace songs outside shops and bus stages. Several supporters climbed atop vehicles waving scarves as the convoy slowly snaked through the city.
The celebrations highlighted Arsenal’s massive fanbase in Kenya, where the English Premier League enjoys enormous popularity. Nairobi has long been known for passionate support of English clubs, but Wednesday’s scenes stood out for their scale and energy.
Police officers were deployed in parts of the CBD to manage traffic and maintain order as the celebrations continued into the evening. Despite the large crowds, no major incidents were immediately reported.
Sports bars and entertainment spots across Nairobi also recorded high turnout, with many fans gathering to relive key moments from Arsenal’s title-winning campaign. Traders selling Arsenal merchandise did brisk business as supporters rushed to buy jerseys, scarves, and commemorative flags.
