Nandi records 90% drop in drug abuse, says Murkomen

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a significant decline in drug and substance abuse in Nandi County, crediting coordinated efforts by security teams, local administrators, and community leadership.

Speaking on Sunday during a Holy Mass and resource mobilisation drive at St. Peter's Cathedral, Kapsabet in Kapsabet, Murkomen said the county has recorded a 90 percent reduction in drug-related cases.

“I want to congratulate the county security team together with our chiefs for a job well done. Drug and substance abuse has reduced in Nandi County by 90%,” he said.

Murkomen praised the collaboration between chiefs, security officers, and community stakeholders, noting that sustained teamwork had been key in curbing the menace. He urged continued vigilance to ensure the gains are not reversed.

He further called on the church, local leaders, and residents to remain actively involved in anti-drug campaigns, emphasizing that long-term success depends on collective responsibility.

The CS was attending the event as part of efforts to support the development of church infrastructure through a local fundraising initiative.
