Muteti Murimi: Championing Education and Opportunity in Kirinyaga

In a bold and inspiring show of leadership, Muteti Murimi continues to play a pivotal role in transforming the education landscape in Kirinyaga County. Standing alongside Governor Anne Waiguru, the Speaker witnessed and supported the issuance of Ksh. 129.5 million in bursaries, a monumental investment that will directly benefit over 48,000 students across the county.

This milestone is more than just numbers—it is a lifeline for thousands of families and a powerful statement that in Kirinyaga, no child will be denied education due to lack of school fees. With total bursary disbursement now reaching an impressive Ksh. 670.2 million since 2017, the county has firmly established itself as a beacon of educational support and equity.

Under this progressive leadership, education in Kirinyaga is being strengthened holistically. From early childhood development to vocational training, every stage of learning is receiving deliberate and impactful attention. The distribution of over 62,000 textbooks, alongside essential learning materials such as pencils, curriculum designs, and chalk, is ensuring that young learners have the tools they need to succeed from the very beginning.

Infrastructure development has also taken center stage. The provision of learners’ chairs, tables, teachers’ furniture, and storage units is creating more conducive and organized learning environments. Meanwhile, the construction of new ECDE classrooms in areas such as Kiriko, Nyamindi, Mukou, and Ng’ang’a is expanding access and bringing education closer to communities.

Perhaps most impactful is the issuance of over 14,000 ECDE uniforms—a move that not only boosts enrolment but restores dignity and confidence among young learners. It reflects a leadership that understands the social and psychological aspects of education, not just the academic.

Equally commendable is the county’s commitment to empowering educators. Continuous recruitment, training, and support of ECDE teachers—especially through Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) aligned programs—ensures that the quality of teaching matches the investments being made in infrastructure and resources. The rollout of digital learning in ECDE centres further positions Kirinyaga at the forefront of modern, technology-driven education.

The revitalization of TVET institutions is another strategic move that speaks to long-term vision. By boosting enrolment in vocational training, the county is equipping young people with practical skills that directly translate into employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Through all these efforts, the leadership of Muteti Murimi reflects consistency, commitment, and a deep understanding of the transformative power of education. His role in supporting and advancing these initiatives underscores the importance of strong institutional leadership working hand in hand with the executive.

With the backing of national leadership, including William Samoei Ruto, Kirinyaga’s education agenda continues to gain momentum, setting a standard for other counties to emulate.

Indeed, in Kirinyaga, #KaziIongee is not just a slogan—it is a lived reality. And with leaders like Muteti Murimi at the helm, the future looks brighter, more inclusive, and full of opportunity for every learner.
