MTRH Brings Specialized Healthcare Closer to Vihiga Residents at Maragoli Hills Medical Camp
Residents of Vihiga County turned up in large numbers on May 23, 2026 as Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) joined the Maragoli Hills Forest Free Medical Camp, reaffirming its commitment to delivering specialized healthcare services directly to communities.
The medical outreach, spearheaded by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in partnership with the Ministry of Health, saw hundreds of residents benefit from free medical consultations, treatment, disease screening and health education aimed at promoting early diagnosis and preventive healthcare.
MTRH deployed a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals who provided a wide range of specialized services including screening and management of non-communicable diseases, eye and dental care, maternal and child health services, mental health support, nutritional counselling and general medical consultations.
Speaking during the outreach programme, Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga called on healthcare workers across the country to embrace compassion and patient-centered care in service delivery.
He urged health professionals to treat patients with dignity and empathy, emphasizing that healthcare workers should serve patients the same way they would wish to be served.
Dr. Oluga further underscored the importance of sustained community outreach programmes in strengthening early disease detection, enhancing public health awareness and advancing the Government’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
The medical camp highlighted the growing importance of partnerships between national health institutions and community leaders in improving access to quality healthcare services, especially for underserved populations.
Residents who attended the camp expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the outreach provided access to specialized medical services that are often difficult and costly to obtain.
