Moses Wetang’ula Mourns Mzee Patrick Wangamati, Pays Tribute to Fallen Bukusu Elder and Former MP
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has joined leaders and residents across the country in mourning the passing of Mzee Hon. Patrick Wangamati, describing him as a distinguished elder, leader and servant of the people.
In a heartfelt message of condolence, Speaker Wetangula extended sympathies to former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and the entire Wangamati family following the death of their patriarch.
On his own behalf and that of his extended family, Wetangula said he was deeply saddened by the loss of Mzee Wangamati, noting that he was not only a father within his family but also a respected elder in the Bukusu community whose wisdom and counsel guided many across generations.
He recalled that during the passing of the family matriarch two years ago, Mzee Wangamati, alongside members of the Bukusu Council of Elders, stood in solidarity with the bereaved family, offering comfort and support during their time of grief.
“Mzee Wangamati was more than a father to his family; he was a respected elder whose wisdom, counsel and leadership guided many of us across generations,” Wetangula said in his message.
The Speaker also noted Mzee Wangamati’s contribution to national service, highlighting his tenure as a nominated Member of Parliament for Ford Kenya in the 11th Parliament, where he diligently championed party ideals and policies with commitment.
Wetangula assured the bereaved family of his prayers and support during this difficult period, adding that the nation had lost a leader whose legacy would continue to be felt through the many lives he touched.
He concluded by praying for God’s comfort and strength for the Wangamati family, and for the peaceful rest of the departed elder.
