Kindiki Leads Push for Regulatory Excellence as KEBS Seals Regional Standards Deal

Kenya’s Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, has called for faster, impact-driven regulation to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits to citizens, as he presided over the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference in Kitui County.

The conference, held at South Eastern Kenya University, brought together regulators from across government to strengthen coordination, accountability, and transparency. Leaders at the forum emphasized the need for more efficient and responsive regulatory systems that directly improve service delivery and support national development.

Among those in attendance was Esther Ngari, Managing Director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), who highlighted progress made in governance and inter-agency collaboration. She urged regulators to accelerate reforms and adopt approaches that deliver measurable results for Kenyans.

In a significant boost to regional cooperation, KEBS also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Zanzibar Bureau of Standards to enhance collaboration and harmonization of standards. The agreement was signed by Esther Ngari and Yusuph Majid Nassor during the recent State Visit to Dar es Salaam led by President William Ruto.

The partnership is expected to strengthen mutual support between the two institutions, improve quality assurance, and promote trade within the region.

Officials say the combined efforts from the conference and the new agreement signal a renewed commitment to regulatory excellence and cross-border collaboration, aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens.
