Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Affordable Housing at World Urban Forum
Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and sustainable urban development during the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), with Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome leading the country’s delegation at the global gathering.
Speaking during the ministerial session and co-chairing a high-level discussion on housing and urban prosperity, Wahome said Kenya is pursuing bold, people-centered and climate-conscious policies aimed at expanding affordable housing, building resilient communities and promoting environmentally sustainable cities.
She noted that housing remains a critical pillar in driving economic growth, social transformation and urban opportunity, especially as urban populations continue to grow rapidly and place increasing pressure on infrastructure and public services.
“Kenya continues to advance bold, people-centered and climate-conscious urban development policies that promote affordable housing, resilient communities, and environmentally sustainable cities as key drivers of inclusive economic growth and social transformation,” Wahome said.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that Kenya’s housing agenda aligns with global efforts to create inclusive cities that offer equal opportunities while addressing the challenges of climate change, rapid urbanization and inequality.
During the forum, Kenya showcased progress made under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, urban renewal initiatives and investments in sustainable infrastructure designed to improve living standards and strengthen resilience in urban areas.
The discussions at WUF13 brought together government leaders, urban planners, development agencies and stakeholders from across the world to explore innovative approaches to sustainable urbanization and housing solutions.
Kenya’s participation highlighted the country’s growing influence in shaping international conversations on sustainable urban development and reinforced its commitment to ensuring access to decent and affordable housing for all citizens.
The 13th World Urban Forum continues to serve as a key global platform for dialogue on the future of cities, urban prosperity and sustainable development.
