Gladys Boss Shollei Launches School Feeding Drive as Food and Sanitary Towels Program Reaches Uasin Gishu Learners

Gladys Boss Shollei has intensified her community support campaign across Uasin Gishu County, with hundreds of learners benefiting from food donations, sanitary towels distribution and a newly launched school feeding program.

Speaking during the third day of the ongoing distribution drive, the Uasin Gishu Woman Representative said the initiative is aimed at supporting vulnerable learners, improving school attendance and restoring dignity among school-going children, especially girls.

The day’s activities began at Chepkoiya Primary School where Shollei engaged directly with teachers, parents and pupils on challenges affecting education and child welfare in the area.

During the visit, food supplies and sanitary towels were distributed to learners as part of efforts to support families struggling with the rising cost of living and economic hardships affecting many households.

Shollei emphasized the importance of ensuring that no child misses school due to lack of basic necessities, noting that menstrual health remains a major challenge for many girls in rural schools.

She said empowering learners through nutrition support and proper hygiene programs is key to improving academic performance and reducing absenteeism in schools.

Later in the day, the legislator visited Ainabtich Primary School where she officially launched a one-year lunch program targeting pupils at the institution.

The feeding initiative has been made possible through a partnership involving Soy Afric, Amina Myren Foundation and KAPU Africa.

According to Shollei, the lunch program is expected to improve concentration levels among learners and help address cases of hunger that often interfere with classroom learning.

Parents and teachers who attended the event welcomed the initiative, saying many children from vulnerable families attend school without meals, making it difficult for them to concentrate during lessons.

Education stakeholders in the region have continued to call for expanded school feeding programs, especially in public primary schools serving low-income communities.

The Woman Representative noted that partnerships between leaders, private organizations and charitable foundations are becoming increasingly important in addressing social challenges affecting children and education.

She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting programs that uplift vulnerable families, promote education and improve the welfare of women and children across Uasin Gishu County.

The distribution exercise is expected to continue in other parts of the county as more schools and communities benefit from the ongoing humanitarian outreach program.
