Award-Winning Teacher Shokwei Barsulai Marks 41st Birthday with Emotional Community Celebration
Award-winning Kenyan teacher and community champion Shokwei Barsulai celebrated his 41st birthday in a heartfelt and emotional gathering filled with love, gratitude, and acts of compassion.
What began as an ordinary evening turned into a memorable celebration after members of the Marpo family team organized a surprise gathering for the respected educator. According to Barsulai, the surprise came at around 4 p.m., just as he believed the day was winding down.
“At 4 p.m., as the day was coming to an end, I was pleasantly surprised by the Marpo family team,” Barsulai shared in an emotional message after the celebration.
The educator took time to appreciate individuals who stood by him during the occasion, including Kenyan Walter, Mesh Nails, Kossy Rutoh, and Lynz Kym, among others, for their thoughtfulness and support.
Barsulai said the surprise celebration reminded him of the importance of family, friendship, and community. He expressed deep gratitude to the team for making him feel appreciated and valued, noting that the gesture touched him deeply.
“I am deeply grateful to this team for remembering me and reminding me that I am celebrated, valued, and part of a family that cares,” he said.
The birthday celebrations later continued with members of the Kamariny family, where friends and loved ones gathered to share cake, laughter, and memorable moments together. Photos and messages shared during the occasion reflected joy and unity as those present celebrated not only Barsulai’s life but also the impact he has made on the community through education and mentorship.
Known for his dedication to teaching and humanitarian work, Barsulai chose to spend part of his special day giving back to the community rather than focusing solely on personal celebrations.
Later in the evening, he joined mothers from the Marpo Rehema Mindililwo group to visit Mama Emmy, a woman whose difficult story he had previously highlighted a few weeks earlier. During the visit, the group spent time with Mama Emmy and her daughter, who has reportedly been battling illness for the past 11 years.
Barsulai described the visit as the most meaningful part of his birthday celebrations, saying it reflected the spirit of compassion and togetherness that he values deeply.
“This is exactly how I had planned to end my day, and I am grateful we got to spend time with her and her daughter, who has been unwell for 11 years,” he said.
The visit brought comfort and encouragement to the family and turned the birthday celebration into a moment of hope and solidarity for everyone involved.
According to Barsulai, the entire day became more than just a personal milestone. Instead, it evolved into a celebration of humanity, friendship, and collective care.
“Today became a great celebration for all of us,” he noted.
The teacher also extended special appreciation to the many people who sent him birthday wishes and messages throughout the day. He thanked Kamariny School, the Marpo team, friends, colleagues, and supporters who took time to celebrate him and recognize his contribution to education and community development.
Barsulai ended his message with a powerful statement emphasizing unity, love, and shared humanity.
“I am because we are ❤️ I love you all. Asanteni sana,” he wrote.
His message has since drawn admiration from many Kenyans online, with supporters praising him not only for his achievements as a teacher but also for his humility, generosity, and commitment to uplifting vulnerable members of society.
At 41, Barsulai continues to inspire many through his work in education, mentorship, and community service, proving that true celebration is found not only in receiving love but also in sharing it with others.
