Uasin Gishu Governor Inspects Bitumen Plant, Says Infrastructure Agenda Under “Nguzo Number Six” on Track
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has affirmed that his administration’s infrastructure development agenda under “Nguzo Number Six” is firmly on course, with renewed focus on strengthening road construction and improving service delivery across the county.
The Governor made the remarks while inspecting the ongoing installation of an asphalt (bitumen) production plant, describing it as a transformative investment that will significantly reshape the county’s road development programme.
He said the plant will play a central role in reducing the cost of road construction by enabling the county to produce bitumen locally instead of relying on external suppliers.
“Nguzo Number Six is firmly on course, with renewed focus on strengthening infrastructure across our county,” Governor Bii said. “Today, I assessed the ongoing installation of the asphalt (bitumen) production plant, a transformative investment that will anchor our road development agenda.”
He added that the initiative is expected to improve efficiency in road works, ensure consistent quality standards, and speed up project completion timelines across the county’s road network.
According to the Governor, local production of bitumen will also reduce delays associated with procurement and transportation of raw materials, which have previously slowed down infrastructure projects.
“By producing this key raw material locally, we will significantly reduce construction costs, improve efficiency, and ensure consistent quality in our road works. This plant is a game changer,” he said.
The county government has been prioritizing road infrastructure as part of its broader development blueprint aimed at boosting trade, improving accessibility, and supporting agricultural and economic activities across Uasin Gishu.
The asphalt plant is expected to support ongoing and future road construction projects, particularly in rural and urban connectivity efforts that are central to the county’s economic growth strategy.
Officials accompanying the Governor during the inspection noted that the facility will enhance sustainability in road construction by reducing dependence on outsourced materials and strengthening local capacity in infrastructure development.
The Governor reiterated that his administration remains committed to delivering visible and impactful development projects under the Nguzo framework, which prioritizes infrastructure, economic empowerment, and improved public services.
Residents have in recent months witnessed increased roadworks across various parts of the county, with the government emphasizing its commitment to opening up all regions for development and investment.
Once fully operational, the asphalt production plant is expected to position Uasin Gishu as one of the leading counties in locally driven infrastructure development, with long-term benefits for both urban and rural communities.
