Uasin Gishu Enhances Healthcare with AI-Powered Diagnostics and Emergency Response System

Uasin Gishu County has taken a major leap in transforming its healthcare system with the introduction of advanced medical technologies aimed at improving service delivery and patient outcomes.

Speaking on the developments, Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea said the county government is intentionally investing in modern solutions to ensure residents have access to timely, reliable, and high-quality healthcare services.

“We are deliberately transforming our health sector to ensure every resident can access timely, reliable, and quality healthcare,” he said.

Among the key milestones is the installation of an AI-powered digital X-ray unit at Uasin Gishu County Hospital. The cutting-edge equipment is expected to significantly improve the early and accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis and other chest-related diseases.

According to Kapkea, the integration of artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging will enable faster detection, reduce waiting times, and enhance clinical decision-making, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.

“This technology strengthens our ability to detect diseases early, particularly tuberculosis, which remains a major public health concern. Faster diagnosis means timely treatment and improved recovery rates for our patients,” he added.

In addition to the diagnostic upgrade, the county has operationalized a Public Health Emergency and Ambulance Dispatch Centre. The facility is designed to enhance emergency response services through real-time coordination of ambulances across the county.

The dispatch centre leverages digital systems to streamline communication, ensuring that emergency cases are responded to promptly and efficiently. This is expected to significantly reduce response times and improve survival rates in critical situations.

Kapkea noted that the new system brings life-saving services closer to residents, particularly in emergency scenarios where time is a critical factor.

The initiatives form part of the county’s broader strategy to modernize healthcare infrastructure, embrace innovation, and strengthen service delivery at all levels.

Health officials believe that the combination of AI-driven diagnostics and improved emergency response mechanisms will not only ease pressure on healthcare facilities but also enhance the overall patient experience.

The Deputy Governor reaffirmed the county’s commitment to continuous investment in the health sector, emphasizing that embracing technology is key to building a resilient and responsive healthcare system.

With these developments, Uasin Gishu positions itself as a leader in adopting innovative healthcare solutions, setting a benchmark for other counties in improving access to quality medical services.
