Uasin Gishu County Announces 100% Waiver on Land Rate Penalties and Interest
The Kenya government, through the County Government of Uasin Gishu, has announced a 100% waiver on all penalties and interest accrued on outstanding land rates, in a move aimed at encouraging compliance among property owners.
According to a public notice issued by the county, Jonathan Bii Chelilim, the Governor of Uasin Gishu County, confirmed that the waiver applies to all property owners who clear their principal land rate arrears in full. The directive is anchored in provisions of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), the Public Finance Management Act (2012), and the Rating Act (Cap. 267).
The county government emphasized that the waiver is conditional: property owners must settle the full outstanding principal amount to benefit from the relief. The offer is time-bound and will remain in effect until April 30, 2026.
Officials say the initiative is intended to ease the financial burden on residents while boosting county revenue collection. By removing accumulated penalties and interest, the administration hopes to incentivize defaulters to regularize their accounts.
In addition, business owners have been encouraged to take advantage of the extended deadline for Single Business Permit (SBP) payments, allowing them to comply without facing additional charges or disruptions.
The county government urged all land and business owners to utilize the waiver period to avoid future inconveniences and potential enforcement measures.
