Tragic Road Accident Claims Daughter of KPA MD, Injures Family

A tragic road accident on Friday night has left the family of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director, Captain William K. Ruto, grieving the loss of his daughter and recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.

The accident occurred along the Mombasa‑to‑Nairobi transport corridor, one of the busiest highways in the country. Preliminary reports indicate that the family vehicle collided with a stationary trailer, which lacked proper signage. The impact tragically claimed the life of Captain Ruto’s daughter, while he and his three other children sustained injuries. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Medical personnel attending to the family have confirmed that Captain Ruto and two of his children are now stable and expected to be discharged soon, while the remaining child continues to receive treatment. Doctors expressed optimism about the family’s full recovery.

On Saturday, Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kipchumba Murkomen, visited Captain Ruto at the hospital. During the visit, CS Murkomen offered his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and wished the injured a speedy recovery. “I extend my deepest sympathies to Captain Ruto and his family during this difficult time. We are praying for their full recovery and strength to overcome this tragedy,” CS Murkomen said.

The Kenya Ports Authority also released a statement expressing profound sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the family, and calling on road users to remain vigilant while driving. “Road safety is a shared responsibility. This incident reminds us of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring all vehicles are properly marked and maintained,” the statement read.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident to establish the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Preliminary findings suggest that the stationary trailer involved in the crash did not have reflective markings, which may have contributed to the tragedy. Road safety advocates say this is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by poorly marked vehicles, particularly along major highways.

Friends, colleagues, and well-wishers have since visited the KPA MD at the hospital, offering support and prayers for the family. The accident has sparked national conversations about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

As the family mourns the loss of their loved one and continues to recover from injuries, the public and government officials alike have rallied in solidarity, hoping for healing and justice.
