Owalo Defends Resignation, Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency, Eliud Owalo, has defended his decision to resign from government, stating that the move was voluntary and motivated by public concerns and his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Owalo revealed that he stepped down on January 11, 2026, after engaging with citizens across the country who expressed frustration over the rising cost of living, increased taxation, and declining confidence in political leadership.

Speaking during a morning talk show on a local radio station on Wednesday, Owalo dismissed claims that he had been forced out of his position, insisting that his resignation was a strategic and personal decision.

“I resigned after listening to Kenyans across the country who are struggling with the cost of living and have lost faith in leaders who fail to deliver on their promises,” he said.

He added that leaving government early would give him ample time to prepare for his presidential campaign and develop a platform that addresses the pressing socio-economic challenges facing the country.

Owalo’s announcement positions him among a growing list of leaders expected to vie for the presidency in 2027, setting the stage for what is likely to be a highly competitive race.

Political analysts say his focus on economic concerns could resonate with voters if he successfully articulates practical solutions to the issues he has highlighted.

Further developments are expected as Owalo begins to outline his campaign agenda and build alliances ahead.
