Orengo Leads Kisumu Protest, Demands Justice Over Attack on Senator Osotsi

Siaya Governor James Orengo on Saturday led a peaceful march to Kisumu Central Police Station, calling for swift action against those behind the recent attack on Godfrey Osotsi.

Addressing supporters after presenting a formal complaint to police, Orengo praised residents of Kisumu for turning up in large numbers, saying their presence sent a strong message on the need to uphold the rule of law and protect political leaders from violence.

“We will not sit idly by while our leaders are targeted and the rule of law is ignored,” Orengo said, adding that justice must be served without delay.

The petition, addressed to Nyanza Regional Police Commander Evelyn Nyamohanga Gisiri, was formally delivered through the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kisumu Central. It outlines demands for the immediate arrest and prosecution of individuals linked to the attack.

Orengo emphasized that those responsible must be brought to book and called for the execution of outstanding arrest warrants tied to the incident.

“Justice delayed is justice denied. Political violence has no place in our democracy,” he stated.

The governor further urged law enforcement agencies to remain impartial and committed to their constitutional duty of protecting all citizens without fear or favor.

The demonstration remained peaceful, with participants chanting slogans and carrying placards demanding accountability. Orengo described the turnout as a sign of collective resolve among residents to push for justice while maintaining order.

He vowed to continue pressing authorities until those behind the attack are apprehended and the safety of leaders is assured.

“We remain peaceful but firm. We will not rest until justice is done,” he said.

The protest comes amid growing concern over rising cases of politically linked violence in parts of the country, with leaders calling for stronger enforcement measures to safeguard democratic space.
