One Suspect Killed, Woman Arrested After Police Intercept Vehicle in Nanyuki

Police in Nanyuki have shot dead a suspected criminal and arrested a woman following a dramatic security operation in Mugambi Estate on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

According to Laikipia East Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Kitavi, officers intercepted a private vehicle, a Toyota Corolla registration number KAM 426F, which was believed to be linked to criminal activities in the area. The car, carrying four occupants, had reportedly been parked in a forested section near Mugambi Estate.

Kitavi said officers ordered the occupants to exit the vehicle, but they refused and instead attempted to flee the scene. During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire on the officers, prompting a shootout.

“In the process, one suspect was fatally shot, while others escaped,” Kitavi stated.

A woman believed to have been part of the group was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police recovered a Beretta pistol at the scene, which authorities believe was used during the exchange of gunfire. The weapon is now being held as evidence.

Security officers have since launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects who managed to escape. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the group’s activities and whether they are linked to recent criminal incidents in the region.

Residents of Mugambi Estate have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police as security operations continue in the area.
